INSPIRATION

I have always loved things that glitter and glimmer and glow. This is something that links mosaic and electronic crafts. Mosaic reflects ambient light, creating a glittering surface of colour, while electronic works generate their own glowing light sources.

I am also been very interested in the strange and stylised art of the Middle Ages. The freedom from the discipline of accurate representation liberates these works into an imaginative visual world that is, to me, far richer than the mere depiction of reality.Recently I have also been fascinated by the period of Late Antiquity and by how the Classical world gradually transformed into Medieval Christendom.

I have recently visited Jordan in order to see the amazing early Christian mosaics. Their simplicity and intense vitality has been the inspiration for the proposed mosaics at Hackney Downs.
